World Book Day is the perfect time to dress up as a favorite book character, and if your child loves Isadora Moon, why not bring her magical world to life with a fun DIY costume?
My little girl has been a fan of Isadora Moon since she was four, and now at eight, she still adores the books.
Whether your child wants to be Isadora, Mirabelle, or even Pink Rabbit, I’ve got a simple guide to help you put together the perfect outfit. Check out the simple step by step ideas in this blog post or you can download the PDF guide at the end of this post if you prefer.
How to Dress Up as Isadora Moon
To get the Isadora Moon look, you’ll need these five essentials:
- Fangs – Use plastic vampire fangs or draw small fangs below the lower lip with face paint or eyeliner.
- Bat Wings – Buy a pair from a costume shop, or make your own with cardboard, paint, and string. You can even download a free printable pattern from Oxford Owl.
- Messy Hair – Let natural hair go wild, or backcomb a wig for extra fluff.
- Magic Wand – A toy wand works great, or craft one using a wooden stick and a foil-covered star.
- Pointy Fairy Ears – Attach skin-colored cardboard triangles to a headband, or use rubber elf ears from a costume store.

Now for the clothes! Isadora has a few different looks, but she always wears:
- Pink and black outfits (a dress, ballet leotard, or tutu works well)
- Striped tights (black and white or pink and white)
- Comfy boots (pink or black)
- Star, moon, or bat designs on her clothes
- A flower crown (optional, just like her fairy mom!)

How to Dress Up as Mirabelle Starspell
Mirabelle is Isadora’s cousin, and she’s got her own Mirabelle book series! To dress up as Mirabelle:
- Pointy black witch’s hat
- Long pink or purple hair (a wig works best)
- A pink or purple and black dress with a petal-shaped skirt
- Stripy tights (black and pink, black and white, or black and purple)
- Pointy black boots
- Spider accessories (optional, since she loves spiders!)
- A witch’s cauldron (optional, but makes a fun prop!)
Unlike Isadora, Mirabelle doesn’t have fairy wings and rarely uses a magic wand, but she loves magical mischief!

How to Dress Up as Cordelia Moon (Isadora’s Mom)
Cordelia Moon, Isadora’s fairy mom, has a soft, pink fairy look. For this costume:
- A pink dress (ideally with floral patterns)
- A flower crown (or clip flowers into your hair)
- A magic wand with a pink star
- Pink shoes
- Pink cardigan or coat for a cozy look
For an extra special look, Cordelia wears a black velvet cape once a year at the Vampire Ball!

How to Dress Up as Bartholomew Moon (Isadora’s Dad)
Bartholomew is Isadora’s vampire dad, so he always wears sleek, gothic clothes. To dress like him:
- Slicked-back hair (use hair gel for a polished vampire look)
- Fangs (a must-have!)
- A long black cape with a high collar
- A white shirt and pinstripe trousers
- Pointy black shoes
In summer, he swaps his cape for a bat-patterned short-sleeved shirt!

How to Dress Up as Pink Rabbit
Pink Rabbit is Isadora’s favorite stuffed animal, and this costume is adorable!
- Head-to-toe pink outfit (gloves optional)
- Pink bunny ears with black and white stripes (make your own with cardboard or buy some)
- Black stitches (draw them on with fabric marker, black wool, or felt pen)
- Pink face paint (optional, but fun!)
- A fluffy white bunny tail (pin on a pom-pom or faux fur piece)
Even Isadora Moon sometimes dresses as Pink Rabbit, so this is a great alternative costume!

How to Dress Up as a Mermaid
For a mermaid look inspired by Emerald and the Ocean Parade:
- Long, flowing hair with star-shaped hair clips
- A mermaid tail (buy one or craft a cardboard version tied at the waist)
- Leggings underneath to hide human legs
- A sparkly top to complete the ocean magic!

How to Dress Up as Oscar the Ghost
Oscar the Ghost is a simple yet spooky costume:
- A white sheet with eye holes (secure around the neck with elastic for safety)
- Black face paint around the eyes and lips
- Glitter spray for a silvery glow
- A suit of armor (if you want to match the Isadora Moon books where Oscar wears one!)
How to Dress Up as Isadora’s Magic Dragon
Isadora’s pet dragon is pink, but dragons can be any color! To make your own dragon costume:
- Cardboard dragon wings (use the Isadora Moon wing pattern)
- Spikes down the back (attach cardboard pieces to a hoodie)
- A pointy-eared headband
- A pale-colored belly with horizontal lines (use a fabric marker or paper cutout)

How to Dress Up as a Snow Boy or Snow Girl
A fun winter costume from Isadora Moon Makes Winter Magic:
- White clothing from head to toe (including gloves!)
- Black “coal” buttons (stick on black pom-poms or paper circles)
- White face paint
- A white, silver, or grey wig for a frosty effect
